Iran States It May Return to US Nuclear Negotiations if Approached with 'Dignity' and 'Honor'
Iran is willing to reinitiate nuclear discussions with the United States as long as it is handled with "dignity" and "respect", Tehran's top diplomat has announced.
Abbas Araghchi said solely negotiations produced results, and shared recent overtures had been made by intermediaries to resume talks with the American leadership. He claimed Iran did not have secret atomic facilities, and Iran could not yet authorize the International Atomic Energy Agency to access attacked atomic facilities for security reasons.
Walking a Challenging Course
Araghchi is walking a challenging course since Iran aims to avoid appear to be acting from a position of weakness, and he emphatically stated that Iran had emerged more powerful militarily and emotionally from the joint assault on its atomic facilities in June.
He was talking at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he restated that Iran had "an inalienable right to enrich uranium domestically that it will never give up" – the key factor of the deadlock in the earlier negotiations.
Prior Discussions Unexpectedly Concluded
The previous five rounds of negotiations between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and acrimonious termination on 12 June when Israel, with US support, targeted Tehran's atomic facilities in a two-week conflict that ended with the US president declaring the facilities had been obliterated. Subsequently, European countries employed their right to restore global restrictions, but Iran asserts they have not had a major impact.
Ideal Resolution Offered
Iranian officials claimed they felt they had achieved a "ideal resolution" to the uranium processing matter in prior discussions, when it was decided an domestic cooperative with US participation could enrich uranium. The two nations would have been able to declare success since local refinement would have continued and the US could be certain that Iran's enrichment initiative was exclusively peaceful.
It had not been settled in the negotiations that US nuclear scientists could function inside Iran, but that was a reasonable assumption of the partnership suggestion. Representatives asserted three times they had secured an understanding with Washington's diplomat Steve Witkoff only for the agreement to collapse due to "detractors in America".
Existing Position
Tehran representatives declared the cooperative arrangement was now withdrawn, but it seems quite possible the proposal could be reintroduced in various formats if negotiations resume.
The US president recently stated he had been obtaining communications that Iran desired to resume discussions, but privately Iran's diplomats state they are not yet getting consistent overtures from Washington either directly or from key regional mediators, such as Qatar, the Egyptian leadership, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Iranian foreign ministry has been accused of non-responsiveness in the wake of Washington's unmediated tactics, but Iran states negotiations is not part of a show.
Negotiating Standpoint
In his speech to the forum, designed to portray the US as a hegemonic power that exploits the idea of global regulations, the foreign minister said the two-week conflict revealed the clash could not be ended by military means. He stated the assaults began with a American requirement for an total Iran submission and concluded with an absolute demand for a halt to hostilities.
Iran is convinced the opening assaults from Tel Aviv were carried out with full US knowledge and collaboration, making faith difficult to reestablish.
Diplomacy Stays the Final Solution
Araghchi declared: "Tehran was not the one that had abandoned dialogue; it was America and the European states that had repeatedly tried to dictate their demands during the talks. Diplomacy can still be active and continues the primary resolution to settle disagreements, but its criteria, guidelines and tenets must be adhered to."
"Provided that they speak to the nation of Iran with the approach of respect and honor, they will receive a reply in the identical tone."
Recovery and Reconstruction
In what is characterized by Iranian officials as the conflict of restoration and recovery, Araghchi stated he was certain Iran's security strengths "are considerably enhanced than preceding 13 or 14 June of this year. Every aspect of our defense have been rebuilt. We acquired multiple understandings from this conflict; we have discovered our own weaknesses and the vulnerabilities of the enemy."
He added: "We effectively endured this war. Our enrichment knowledge, which they planned to eliminate, remains in place. The facilities and gear, if eliminated, will be reconstructed; what is important is the resolve of the citizens of Tehran and then the unity of the country that they sought to undermine, but failed to shatter. The Iranian people have become more powerful, more united, and more endorsing of the administration and the nation in the face of this attack."
